Predictive Learning Analytics™ (PLA) Certification Program

The program consists of three components: (1) Participation in the workshop Boost Training Transfer using PLA, (2) Implementation of an independent PLA project and (3) Satisfactory completion of a final project report. Included are three hours of voluntary virtual group coaching.

Who Should Attend?

This program is for learning and development professionals responsible for measuring and evaluating training program effectiveness.  No prerequisites are required to enroll in this program.  However, anyone attending should be familiar with the five-level evaluation model — Reaction, Learning, Behavior, Results, and ROI.  And have some experience conducting training program evaluations.  A desire to learn how to pinpoint the underlying causes of scrap learning associated with a training program and to take corrective actions to mitigate or eliminate them is also a plus.  

Program Objectives

After attending this innovative, highly interactive program, you will be able to:  

  • Identify the impact scrap learning has on wasted organization resources and lost credibility with business executive stakeholders. 
  • Use five key Predictive Learning Analytics™ metrics to identify the underlying causes of scrap learning associated with a training program. 
  • Predict which participants are most likely, at-risk and least likely to apply what they learned in a training program back on the job.
  • Predict which managers of the program participants are likely to provide active or passive support for the training.
  • Determine which research-based training transfer components and training transfer factors contribute the most and least to training transfer.
  • Calculate the amount of scrap learning associated with a training program and identify the obstacles inhibiting participants from applying what they learned.
  • Validate the accuracy of your participant training transfer predictions using Level 2 and Level 3 evaluation data. 
  • Create reports showing your Predictive Learning Analytics™ results and gain increased credibility with business executive stakeholders.

Certification Process

 Obtaining PLA certification requires completion of these three steps:

  1. Attending all four workshop modules and actively participating in each session.
  2. Using the methodology to evaluate a training program. The program could be either one of yours or if you are a consultant, a client program.
  3. Submitting a written report describing how you used the PLA methodology to increase training transfer and the results you obtained. 

Workshop Agenda

Currently, the workshop is available in an online format only.  However, in-person sessions are likely in the future. Dates and locations for all sessions will be posted shortly.  The following outline is the agenda for the online version of the workshop.

  • Workshop overview reading
  • Selecting a target training program for use in the workshop 

Week One

Day 1:

Module 1: Data Collection and Analysis

  • Scrap learning and its cost in wasted money and time
  • The three-phase nine-step Predictive Learning Analytics™ methodology
  • Two predictive metrics pinpointing underlying causes of scrap learning 

Day 2:

Module 2: Data Collection and Analysis (cont.)

  • Three descriptive metrics pinpointing underlying causes of scrap learning
  • Calculate the baseline scrap learning percentage

One-hour voluntary virtual coaching session addressing content covered in Modules 1 & 2 

Week Two

Day 3:

Module 3: Solution Implementation 

  • Targeted corrective actions to mitigate or eliminate scrap learning
  • Creating Level 2 and 3 evaluations to validate the accuracy of the predictive metrics 
  • Recalculate the scrap learning percentage and compare it to the baseline amount

Day 4:

Module 4: Report Your Results

  • Guidelines for presenting your PLA data
  • Sample data charts 
  • Implementation guide overview 

Two-hour voluntary virtual coaching session addressing content covered in Modules 1-4 and a review of the program certification process
