Measurement and Evaluation “How To” Presentations Delivered Virtually or In-person

Power Up Your Level 1 Evaluations

and Gain Surprisingly Useful, Valued Data

What's the difference between a Level 1 evaluation that produces data with high perceived value and one that doesn't? The answer quite simply is a careful and informed design.

However, the unfortunate truth is that many learning and development professionals are uninformed in the art and science of evaluation design. Consequently, they create Level 1 evaluations that produce data that has little perceived value. According to a recent ATD research study, 83% of organizations evaluate some learning programs at Level 1 of the five-level evaluation model. Yet, only 35% view the data they collect to have either high or very high value.

Bring this informative, highly engaging session in-house to your L&D team. Provide them with practical tips and guidelines on how to create Level 1 evaluations that produce data both L&D professionals and business executives find relevant and credible. Explore the Dos and Don'ts of writing insightful survey items, laying out evaluation forms, and crafting accurate measurement scales. Particular emphasis is also given to creating survey items that predict participant learning and intent to apply what was learned back on the job.

After attending this session, you will be able to:

  • Use facts from a recent ATD research study to benchmark an organization's use of Level 1 evaluations
  • Avoid the common survey item, form layout, and measurement scale mistakes made by L&D professionals when creating Level 1 evaluations that result in the collection of misleading or invalid data
  • Use 12 tips and best practices to create Level 1 evaluations that produce robust, highly valued data
